Internal Unrest

Maker
Brent Wong
Production date
1969
Description
An architectural object floats in the sky above a archetypal New Zealand villa and landscape. Brent Wong is wrongly classified as a New Zealand regionalist. Often overlooked is Wong's sense of displacement at his european exterior whilst knowing his Chinese heritage often goes unnoticed and is an intangible factor in these works which are not overtly about 'identity in crisis'.

The impact of Wong on the NZ psyche seems to have been ignored. For me anyway, there is too much to feast on with his 65(?) show especially. My unworthy thanks.
