Description
This image of waka or canoes on the Waikato River near Ngaruawahia has been attributed to the New Zealand aerial photography firm, White's Aviation Ltd.

Leo White (1906-1967) was a freelance photographer in the 1920s and was closely involved with aviation in Auckland in the 1920s and 1930s, pioneering aerial photography in the region. A photographer during World War II, White went on to establish White's Aviation Ltd in 1945 to produce a series of popular illustrated publications of aviation history and aerial photography. The firm continued to produce iconic imagery of the New Zealand landscape until the 1980’s when the company was purchased by Air Logistics (NZ) Ltd (now GeoSmart). The White’s archive is now held at Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington.
