Description
Tales of the Bush and River - A first edition telling of pioneer days in the Waikato River area, including some Maori stories and legends. The book was published in 1947 from the family records of the writer, whose father owned a flaxmilling and store-keeping business. Many of his father’s clients were old warriors, the stories passed down add much to our knowledge of the life in the region during the 1880’s. The foremost image is of Tawhiao, the Maori King and successor to Potatau.

Edward Thorneycroft Frost (1877-1949) was a little known writer. His only significant work being a collection of Maori stories compiled and published a few years before his death. He is buried in Kaitaia, Northland.
