Description
The scene in this watercolour is a view in the Te Winika Gallery of the Waikato Museum. Various Maori taonga (artefacts) are juxtaposed in the composition, including a stone sinker, pou carvings and Te Winika, the waka taua or war canoe who was gifted to the Museum in 1972 by the late Maori Queen Dame Te Arikinui Te Atairangikahu.

Elaine Henry is a Hamilton artist who discovered her artistic inclinations through various courses and workshops. She attended a four-year correspondence illustrating course and summer schools with well-known New Zealand artists including Louise Henderson, Jan Nigro, Kees Hos, Doris Lusk and Paul Van den Bergh.
