This work was the winner of 2006 Trust Waikato Contemporary Art Award. It represents a series of projects by the artist related to the collections of Frederick Butler. Over the years Butler amassed approx. 3,500 scrapbooks covering subjects as diverse as Heart Transplants, Sir George Grey, Needlework, Hockey and Crime. Shelton’s ‘A Library to Scale’ is made up of twenty six photographs and eleven video works. ‘Marsland Hill, part 1 of 11’ consists of animated stills from the pages of Butler's book titled Marsland Hill that includes his own writings, transcripts and everyday news clippings.

Ann Shelton was born in Timaru and studied art at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland University and University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading photographic artists, Shelton has exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand and internationally and has a number of publications about her work.
