Description
This painting was the Winner of 2003 Waikato, King Country & Thames Valley Yellow Pages Arts Scholarship. The cows of Brent Deadman are indicative of all the icons we associate with the Waikato. The colours of the Waikato red, black and yellow stand out as one of the obvious symbols of regional pride. Other iconic aspects represented include: balloons over Waikato, Waipa Delta paddlesteamer, Maori carvings, café life, environmentalism, horse racing, wetlands/birdlife, lifesaving in the surf and Waitomo Caves.

Brent Deadman (1971–) is a Hamilton signwriter and artist. His winning entry for the Yellow Pages Award was the second time he had won with his art also making it to the cover in 1998.
