Forest Ranger's Knife and Sheath

Description
The Forest Ranger's knife and leather sheath case. The knife blade is steel and is quite heavy to handle. It has a broad point blade which is rivetted into the wood and it is a two piece handle. The handle end is curved to assist the grip. The wood is probably New Zealand Kauri and is a very hard wood.

The Forest Ranger's knife was based on the 'bowie knife' introduced by Gustavus Ferdinand Von Tempsky, which is a hand knife weapon used to advantage in bush warfare. Von Tempsky's fame is renowned for giving his services fighting for the militia forces in the 1860s Waikato Campaigns of the New Zealand Wars.
