Description
This infant's knitted woollen coat was made for the first child of the donor's mother. The coat was never worn because the style was no longer fashionable for baby boys. It is part of a set with a knitted dress.
The coat style has a high neck with a collar. A front opening to the waist. Long raglan sleeves. Loose waistline and a full 'skirt'.
The knitted stitches of the bodice and sleeves is a plain stocking stitch. Bands of moss stitch are at the edges of the sleeve and collar, down the front opening, at the waist and at the hem. A lacy knitted stitch is made of the collar and all of the 'skirt'.
